About this stop
A little about Ligonde
Ligonde is a small locality with historical significance on the Camino de Santiago. In the 12th century, a pilgrim hospital was established here by the Order of the Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem, providing care and shelter for pilgrims on their journey. The hospital was dedicated to Saint James and Saint John the Baptist. Today, you can still find remnants of its past, such as the medieval stone cross, or "cruceiro," which marks the highest point in the village. The cross is adorned with carvings of Saint James, the Virgin Mary, and other religious figures, symbolizing the importance of the Camino and the spiritual journey of the pilgrims.
