About this stop
A little about Rabanal del Camino
Rabanal del Camino is a small, picturesque village located in the region of León, Spain. Historically, it has been an important resting point for pilgrims traveling along the Camino de Santiago. The village is known for its traditional stone buildings and narrow streets, which have remained largely unchanged over the centuries.
In the Middle Ages, Rabanal del Camino was a significant stop for the Knights Templar, who built a monastery there to provide protection and assistance to the pilgrims. The monastery, known as the Convento de San Salvador, was later taken over by the Order of Santiago after the dissolution of the Knights Templar. Today, the village is home to the Church of Santa Maria, a Romanesque structure dating back to the 12th century, which is a must-visit site for pilgrims. Additionally, the Gaucelmo Monastery, which is run by the British Confraternity of St. James, offers accommodation and spiritual support to modern-day pilgrims.
